January 11 - Poor, Homeless and Dead.

January 11

Poor, Homeless and Dead

Jas 2:6 But ye have despised the poor.

Today I want to focus on a homeless man who died way too young.  We don’t know a great deal about his early life. But a social worker could have filled out his file with these facts and what happened to cut his life so short.

His parents were poor.

He was born in a strangers barn miles from home.

His folks traveled a lot.  They were on the run from the government.

Eventually they settled in a small town with a bad reputation.

He worked in a small business for many years, but it wasn’t especially profitable.

Eventually he started roaming from town to town.  His family didn’t understand why.

But he never traveled more than 100 miles from home.

He couldn’t afford much so he just walked from one town to the next.

He eventually fell in with a group of guys who had problems.

One was a thief; another had a bad temper; and another was bull headed and didn't believe anything unless he saw it.

One of the guys was so bad he turned in his friend for the reward money.

What was worse the homeless man was innocent.  But that didn’t matter.

Some people said he ate too much. He was a glutton.

He was called a liar.

He was called a drunkard.

He didn’t get along with the church crowd very well.

They said he was a tool of the devil.

Men twisted his words.

They questioned his motives

They told lies about him.

He got arrested.

He was wrongly convicted

His friends all abandoned him.

The religious crowd despised him

Soldiers abused him

Crowds made fun of him

Criminals insulted him

And the government killed him!

Our meditation for today is to think of all that Christ endured in his 33 years. Then consider what problems you may have. Compare your life to His. That should help you put things in their right perspective for today.

Now go count your blessings.

Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
